Choosing the Right Camera System for Your Property

March 18, 2026 · 6 min read

It's tempting to judge a security system by how many cameras it has, but coverage quality matters more than quantity. A well-placed 6-camera system covering every entry point beats a poorly-placed 12-camera system with blind spots.

Resolution matters for identification, not just detection — you want footage clear enough to make out a face or license plate, not just a blurry shape. We typically recommend at least 1080p for entry points and higher resolution for wide-area coverage.

Storage and remote access are the next consideration: local storage keeps footage even if internet goes down, while cloud storage protects footage if a camera is stolen or damaged. Most of our installs use both.

The detail people forget is power. A camera system is only as reliable as its power source — if it goes down during an outage, so does your coverage. Pairing your system with battery or solar backup keeps it running when it matters most.
